Frequently Asked Questions

Do you buy all types of metal?

Yes — ferrous (iron, steel, cast iron, HMS) and non-ferrous (copper, aluminium, brass, stainless, lead, zinc, nickel). We also take cable, e-waste with metal content, and industrial machinery.

Is pickup free?

Free for loads over 50kg. Below that, we either quote a small collection fee or you can drop off at our yard at 170 Gul Circle.

How fast is pickup?

Typically within 24–48 hours of your call. Urgent same-day pickup available for larger loads — just let us know.

How do I get paid?

Cash or bank transfer (PayNow / FAST) on the spot after weigh-in. For larger regular clients, we can also do invoice-based terms.

Do I need a business to sell to you?

No. We buy from individuals, SMEs, large corporates — anyone with scrap metal.

If you are clearing a factory, construction site, or commercial tenancy, see our scrap metal disposal service — same licensed recycling route, framed for disposal-driven enquiries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Molten Steel a licensed scrap metal recycler in Singapore?

Yes — we’ve been a licensed scrap metal recycler in Singapore since 2006. All handling, storage, and processing is NEA-compliant. We can provide documentation for compliance and audit purposes.

What happens to my scrap after recycling?

Clean ferrous and non-ferrous scrap is sorted, graded, and supplied to foundries and manufacturers regionally. About 95% of metal recycling in Singapore’s industry is re-melted into new product, saving raw ore and reducing CO2 vs virgin production.

Can you recycle e-waste or batteries?

We handle lead-acid batteries (car batteries) under NEA regulations. For general e-waste, we refer clients to NEA-approved e-waste operators, but metal components of decommissioned equipment we can process directly.

Our Scrap Metal Recycling Process Step-by-Step

Every consignment moves through a documented eight-step workflow so traceability, grading, and payment stay auditable. This is the same process our audit trail references for NEA licensing and ISO 14001 compliance.

  1. Intake & documentation — Weighbridge ticket generated on arrival at our Tuas yard; vehicle, consignor, and waybill logged against the NEA General Waste Collector register.
  2. Visual segregation — Incoming load separated into ferrous, non-ferrous, and mixed streams. Obvious contaminants (plastics, rubber, oil-soaked waste) flagged for rejection or decontamination.
  3. XRF verification — Handheld X-ray fluorescence analyser confirms alloy grade for copper, brass, stainless steel, and other non-ferrous grades before pricing.
  4. Weighing & grading — Material weighed on a Weights & Measures-verified weighbridge (±0.1%); grade and moisture deductions (if any) recorded on the ticket.
  5. Pricing reference — Settlement quoted against same-day LME cash prices less standard processing margins. See live indicative figures on our price page.
  6. Processing — Material baled, sheared, or shredded to smelter specification. Cable is stripped; motors and transformers are broken down for copper recovery.
  7. Smelter dispatch — Finished bales containerised and shipped to licensed downstream smelters in the region; chain-of-custody paperwork retained for seven years.
  8. Payment — PayNow, bank transfer, or cheque released within 24 hours for new customers; instant settlement for account holders.

Who Uses Our Recycling Service

Our recycling throughput is a mix of industrial generators, trade customers, and municipal clients. Typical profiles below.

Contract manufacturers and precision machine shops

CNC machining and stamping operations across Jurong, Tuas, and Sungei Kadut generate 2-10 tonnes of turnings, drops, and offcuts monthly. We supply segregated bins on site and collect on scheduled rotations.

Marine and offshore yards

Shipyards in Tuas and Jurong Island produce heavy ferrous and non-ferrous arisings from refits and decommissioning — propellers, condenser tubes, valves, and structural steel. Typical campaigns run 20-200 tonnes over a drydock window.

Electrical and M&E contractors

Installers and demolition M&E subcontractors sell recovered copper cable, busbar, and aluminium conduit — usually 200 kg to 3 tonnes per project. We pay against stripped versus unstripped grades with the ratio confirmed on delivery.

Facility managers and landed estates

Building owners clearing old aircon systems, water tanks, and steel gates — smaller but recurring volumes (50 kg to 2 tonnes). Commonly combined with our collection service.

Government agencies and town councils

Public-sector tenders for infrastructure replacement — lamp posts, signage, guardrails — typically contracted per tonne with closed-bid pricing tied to LME.

Real Recycling Examples

Representative jobs from recent months, stripped of identifying details.

Jurong electronics plant, line retrofit: 14 tonnes of mixed stainless steel (304/316) structural frames replaced during a plant upgrade. XRF-verified on intake, baled within 48 hours. Settlement issued the day after collection — the write-down on the capex replaced offset roughly 9% of the new line’s steelwork budget.

Tuas marine yard, propeller decommissioning: six nickel-aluminium bronze propellers (~6.4 tonnes combined). Each blade XRF-confirmed to C95800 spec before weighing. Recovered value in the five-figure range offset part of the drydocking invoice.

Woodlands M&E contractor, cable clearance: 1.8 tonnes mixed copper cable from a data centre decommissioning — stripped bright ratio assessed on delivery and priced against the daily copper scrap rate. PayNow within 24 hours.

Recycling FAQ

Do I need to sort my scrap before delivery?

Sorting helps, but it is not mandatory. Mixed loads are segregated on intake by our yard team. Clean, pre-sorted loads (e.g. separated copper, brass, stainless) attract higher per-kilo rates because they bypass processing deductions.

What is XRF verification and why does it matter?

XRF (X-ray fluorescence) is a non-destructive analyser that reads alloy composition in seconds. We use it to confirm grade before pricing — particularly important for copper alloys, stainless grades, and lead-containing brass where visual identification can misprice a load by 30-40%.

How are prices calculated?

Ferrous grades are quoted on a domestic benchmark; non-ferrous settle against the LME cash price less processing margin. Same-day rates are available on our prices page or via our calculator.

What is the minimum quantity you accept?

No fixed minimum at our Tuas yard. For on-site collection we typically require around 200 kg or a mixed skip’s worth to justify dispatching a lorry crane — smaller volumes are most economical as drop-offs.

Do you issue disposal documentation for ESG reporting?

Yes. Consignment notes, weighbridge tickets, and downstream smelter declarations are available on request. Larger contract customers receive monthly tonnage and recovery summaries for ISO 14001 reporting.

Are you NEA-licensed?

Yes. Molten Steel Pte Ltd holds a valid NEA General Waste Collector licence for scrap metal and has operated continuously since 2006. Details on our credentials page.

Coverage & Volume

We collect and receive scrap across all Singapore industrial zones — Jurong, Tuas, Joo Koon, Sungei Kadut, Woodlands, and central/east industrial estates — with our Tuas yard as the central processing point. Volumes range from 50 kg domestic clearances up to 500-tonne demolition arisings handled over multiple loads. For sustained industrial accounts (monthly 5+ tonnes) we structure scheduled uplifts with dedicated bins.
